The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized the approval of Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) pathways for specific biofuels derived from canola/rapeseed oil. These approved fuel pathways will be eligible to generate Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs), subject to meeting the necessary criteria outlined in the RFS regulations. The biofuels covered in the EPA’s final rule include diesel, jet fuel, heating oil, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas produced from canola/rapeseed oil through hydrotreating. Additionally, the EPA has introduced a new definition of “canola/rapeseed oil” within the RFS regulations.
